New classes of drugs are expected to emerge in the near future, including selective aldosterone synthase inhibitors (lorundrostat, bacdrostat), which have demonstrated significant blood pressure reduction in phase III trials.
It is noted that these drugs may have a favorable side effect profile.
Injectable drugs based on small interfering RNAs, administered twice a year, such as zilebesiran (Alnilam), which reduces the activity of alanine-glyoxylate aminotransferase, are also of interest.
Zilebesiran was previously tested in the phase II KARDIA-3 trial in patients with uncontrolled hypertension and a high risk of cardiovascular disease.
