Integrated model of medical care for the treatment of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction in China

An integrated model of medical care was used in four hospitals (the intervention group). This model mainly included regular public awareness, training in STEMI diagnosis and treatment skills in centers unable to perform percutaneous coronary intervention, improving the referral system for patients, and creating an optimal "green channel" for primary centers capable of performing percutaneous coronary intervention.

Between 2015 and 2019, the rates from onset of symptoms to reperfusion within 12 hours and from onset of symptoms to hospitalization within 12 hours increased in the intervention group (from 65.3% to 91.4% and from 74.2% to 96.4%, respectively; Ptrend=0.015 for both indicators).

The proposed model has already proved its effectiveness in China and can be adapted in other countries.
